This story perfectly illustrates the fallacy of an all-too-common "progressive" view of the world, cultural relativism. That is, all cultures are equally valuable, useful, and moral, and we in the West have no business making value judgements of other societies. Thanks to political correctness, this view has been taken up by the loudest and shrillest voices in the cultural landscape of the West and largely adopted by our morally weak politicians, media, and public institutions including universities. It is also one of the basic tenets of multiculturalism, a philosophy held and promoted by many western leaders including our own prime minister (who learned this at the knee of his father). He is so proud of his country that he believes we have no culture of our own (certainly not one that his tiny brain can elucidate or appreciate).
Today's example of "All Cultures Are NOT Equal" is Indonesia, a majority Muslim nation. This beacon of cultural achievement is in the news thanks to their prosecution and sentencing to jail of a woman who had the temerity and unmitigated gall to record and report her boss's sexual harassment. This moral backwater actually punishes the victims of sexual harassment! All Muslim nations exhibit varying degrees of such contemptible behaviour, but self-hating, guilt-ridden westerners instinctively turn a blind eye toward such acts in an attempt to apologize to the world for their existence.
"Indonesia [is] a conservative nation that tolerates child marriage, has high levels of violence against women and imposes virginity tests on women who want to join the military or police." https://www.mail.com/int/news/world/9296646-indonesia-approves-amnesty-woman-who-recorded-hara.html#.1272-stage-set2-4
